Krakatau Steel And Tata Metal Lestari Collaborate To Promote A Sustainable Steel Industry

JAKARTA - Preserving the environment as a legacy for future generations must be implemented in the steel industry. One of the steps that can be taken is to carry out the Eco-green concept in the industrial sector through an ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) approach.

"Eco-Green will be a very critical governance in the future. So indeed Eco-Green is not for business, but for our preparation for the next generation. When we pass the earth to them. That's what we really have to remember," said Commercial Director of PT Krakatau Steel, Melati Sarnita after the Signing of the ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) Commitment for Sustainable Industry between PT Krakatau Steel and PT Tata Metal Lestari (Tatalogam Group), last Wednesday, December 22.

Melati in her written statement, Saturday, December 25, explained that steel is one of the recycled products so that it does not damage the environment and people's lives. For this reason, Krakatau Steel together with PT Tata Metal Lestari as one of the producers of Aluminum Zinc Coated Steel (BJLAS) in the country are committed to improving sustainable governance in the steel industry.

He also appreciated PT Tata Metal Lestari for implementing industry 4.0 so that efforts towards a sustainable industry can be realized immediately. Melati added, the steel industry provides a large multiplier for the environment and society. Therefore, in developed countries, the steel industry is highly protected. Even this industry is considered as the defense industry of a country.

"The steel industry is considered the defense industry of a country. We are not talking about weapons, but in terms of defending the life of the environment and the people in that country. If we look at big countries like America, India, or China, they have industrial policies. very strong steel industry to protect its domestic industry. We hope that as a state-owned company, our steel industry can help steel industry business actors so that we can also strengthen the policy," he explained again.

On the same occasion, Vice President of PT Tata Metal Lestari, Stephanus Koeswandi explained, the current condition of the earth is very worrying. As is known, global warming continues to increase rapidly every year

The terrible thing is, in 2021, the temperature at the North Pole has even matched the temperature in Jakarta in the range of 38 degrees Celsius. As a result, there will be sinking cities and the loss of ecosystems on this earth.

Because of this concern, PT Tata Metal Lestari and Tatalogam Group are committed to preserving this environment. Various efforts were made to achieve the Zero Emission target. One of them is by implementing industry 4.0, as well as collaborating with other parties so that the steel industry in this country becomes an industry that is more environmentally friendly.

"So we and PT Krakatau Steel are collaborating towards a sustainable, green industry, with an ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) approach. Because if this steel is I believe we have enough. So there is no need to import anymore. But we fight in other ways namely by ensuring that our homes (Indonesia) are still green and the sky is blue like the Krakatau Steel logo and Tata Metal Lestari. Together we will try to inspire by promoting environmentally friendly industries and contributing, not only to nature but for people, businesses, and promoting sustainable policies," said Stephanus.

In the event, in addition to the signing of the ESG Commitment between PT Krakatau Steel and PT Tata Metal Lestari, an export release event for 2 green products by PT Tata Metal Lestari was also held. This time, the products called Green Ubud and Green Buaran will be exported to Australia.

This environmentally friendly product uses the EARLY Nexalume approach which means Environmental Responsible and Sustainability. Stephanus explained that later they will also launch the EARLY label where every Tata Metal Lestari product will adopt sustainable manufacturing practices based on ESG.

"Today we are releasing 125 tons of Buaran Green and Ubud Green products. With the exports released today, we have exported a total of 2,650 tons of similar products from the target of 5,000 tons per month. Australian society itself is now aware of the use of environmentally friendly products. . To be precise, since COP 26 was held some time ago. So at COP 26 there are 26 countries that are committed to implementing sustainable business. So it is not only growth that is being pursued but also its sustainability," concluded Stephanus.
