Government Claims Improving Labor Conditions As Economic Recovery Efforts

JAKARTA - The government through the Minister of Finance (Menkeu) Sri Mulyani said that the national employment condition was improving in line with efforts to recover the economy.

According to the Minister of Finance, this assumption is based on the government's ability to create an additional 1.9 million people in the workforce and create new jobs for 2.6 million people.

It is said that the number is spread across various sectors, including manufacturing, trade, construction, accommodation and food and beverage, as well as mining.

"During the recovery process, we also monitor improvements that are real in nature, which matters, which is very important for the community, namely economic recovery accompanied by the creation of job opportunities, because at the time of the Covid-19 outbreak, many of our workers were affected by layoffs or reduced working hours. ,” he said in a discussion forum that was broadcast virtually, Wednesday, December 15.

The Minister of Finance added that the government's strategic steps in boosting economic activity played a role in suppressing the open unemployment rate from the previous level of 7.1 percent to 6.5 percent.

In addition, unemployment caused by the impact of the pandemic was also recorded to have decreased to 1.8 million people or cut by 29 percent from the previous 2.6 million people.
