Rejecting The Determination Of The 2022 UMP, KSPI Will Sue Indonesian Governors

JAKARTA - The Confederation of Indonesian Trade Unions (KSPI) will sue governors throughout Indonesia over the decree (SK) setting the provincial minimum wage or UMP and Regency/City Minimum Wage or UMK 2022 to the State Administrative Court (PTUN).

"We will issue 34 Governor's Decrees against the UMP and UMK, the provincial minimum wage and the regency/city minimum wage," he said in a virtual press conference Friday, December 3.

Not only that, said Iqbal, in protesting against the 2022 minimum wage policy, the masses of workers will also hold national demonstrations in front of the State Palace, Constitutional Court Building and DKI Jakarta City Hall on December 7. This action will be attended by 500 to 100,000 workers from all over Jabodetabek.

"We will continue to carry out labor actions, and even expand them. National labor actions will be followed by actions in each province, district/city, or region," he explained.

Iqbal said there were three demands that would be voiced at the national rallies. First, the teacher asked the government and the DPR to revoke the Job Creation Act.

Second, workers ask the government to revoke Government Regulation (PP) Number 36 of 2021 which regulates the Wage System. Meanwhile, this PP is a derivative of the Job Creation Act.

Finally, the labor union asked that all governors and mayors' decrees regarding the provincial minimum wage or UMP and district/city minimum wage or UMK be cancelled.

If the action is not heard, said Iqbal, the workers will take the last option, namely to hold a national strike. This strike will be attended by 2 million workers throughout Indonesia and will involve thousands of factories.

As is known, the union rejected the average minimum wage to only increase by 1.09 percent next year. This is because this figure is far from the minimum wage increase proposed by the labor union, which is 7 to 10 percent. However, recently, the figure was lowered to 4 to 5 percent.
