JAKARTA - The Financial Services Authority (OJK) reports that it has taken action against 103 illegal online lending institutions in the form of closing business activities. The chairman of the OJK Investment Alert Task Force Tongam L. Tobing said this step was intended to prevent losses suffered by the community.
"These 103 illegal online loan entities are circulating through applications on cellphones and on websites that can harm the public," he said in a press statement, Friday, December 3.
According to Tongam, the actions taken by the authorities are real actions to support the efforts of the law enforcement process carried out by the Police.
"We continue to take precautions through cyber patrols and close down illegal borrowing entities that we find again," he said.
Tongam added that eradicating illegal loans requires cooperation from all parties, especially the community so that they do not access illegal loans that can be detrimental.
"People who need funds for productive purposes are asked to borrow from fintech lending registered and licensed at the OJK," he said.
Furthermore, he revealed that the authorities continue to strive to eradicate illegal borrowing activities by increasing public literacy by distributing educational content about the dangers of illegal lending.
"Currently, several space media in the DKI Jakarta area have broadcast public service advertisements regarding the alert for illegal borrowing," he added.
To note, from 2018 to November 2021, the Investment Alert Task Force (SWI) has closed a total of 3,734 illegal loans.
It is also stated that SWI encourages law enforcement against these illegal online loan actors by continuously blocking sites and applications so that no one can access them.
