Political Dynamics 2029 And The Electability Of The Minister Of Finance Purbaya Yudhi Sadive Who Soared

JAKARTA The popularity of the Minister of Finance Purbaya Yudhi Sadive jumped sharply thanks to his high-end communication style. Later, his name was linked to the National Mandate Party (PAN).

The figure of Minister of Finance Purbaya has recently become a favorite of the public. His well-known communication style is straightforward, easy to understand, even for some people called cowboys, it has become an attraction for themselves.

Purbaya Yudhi Sadive entered the Red and White Cabinet replacing Sri Mulyani on September 8, 2025. In the first three days of being the state treasurer, Purbaya received negative sentiment from netizens reaching 55 percent.

However, this view gradually reversed. The former Head of the Deposit Insurance Corporation (LPS) is now the people's favorite figure. His name has also begun to be linked to the world of politics.

Since being appointed by President Prabowo Subianto to replace Sri Mulyani as Minister of Finance, Purbaya's name has immediately been in the spotlight. Not only about the tough task that was assigned to him, in the midst of the Indonesian economic situation which was not doing well, but the community was also surprised by Purbaya's statement at the beginning of his tenure.

On the day of the inauguration alone, the man who was born on July 1, 1964, had already reaped blasphemy, because he used the phrase little people'' during a press conference. Not to mention the upload of Yudo Sadive, Purbaya's son, about the ' CIA agent' on his Instagram account.

But not long after that, Purbaya actually succeeded in attracting the hearts of the people. One of the moments that received a positive response when he suddenly called Kring Pajak 1500200 to directly test the quality of the service and the readiness of officers to explain the tax system on September 19.

This action is clearly a byword, as well as shifting the assumption that the 'coboi' style, which previously had negative meaning, has now become positive.

The support was again given by the public to Purbaya after the Minister of Finance emphasized that he refused to pay off God's debt using the State Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBN) funds.

A series of Purbaya's performances during his less than two months as Minister of Finance made his popularity continue to creep. The Indonesia Political Opinion (IPO) survey places Purbaya as a minister with the highest positive perceptions from the public compared to other officials at KMP.

The survey was conducted on October 9-17 and involved 1,200 respondents. As a result, 17. percent of respondents perceived Purbaya as the minister with the best performance. He got the highest position among other cabinet ministers, who on average only gained a positive perception of under 15 percent.

According to Kompas Research and Development monitoring through Kompas Monitoring on the activities of netizens on five social media platforms, such as TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, and X for the period September 8 to October 13, 2025, positive sentiment towards Purbaya reached 47 percent, followed by 25 percent of neutral votes, and 28 percent negative.

Not only that, Purbaya's name also shot up in the electability survey of presidential and vice presidential candidates. The IndexPolitica survey institute conducted on October 1-10 2025 to 1,610 respondents showed that the country's treasurer achieved 22.50 percent electability or only lost to President Prabowo Subianto (40.12 percent).

In the same survey, Purbaya outperformed a number of political figures such as two former governors who were also presidential candidates in the 2024 presidential election, namely Anies Baswedan (13.40 percent) and Ganjar Pranowo (7.12 percent), and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka at 4.8 percent.

But when asked about his chances of becoming a vice presidential candidate, Purbaya answered straightforwardly, "It's only been a month of work, you crazy!"

The former chairman of the LPS was also linked with one of the political parties. Deputy Chairperson of the PAN DPP Eddy Soeparno admitted that Purbaya has high electability, although he does not seem fully interested in the political world.

IPO Director Dedi Kurnia Syah said that Minister of Finance Purbaya should not be disturbed by electability propaganda to welcome the 2029 political contestation in carrying out his duties.

"Purbaya will be good if it is not disturbed by electability propaganda, but needs to be given a performance evaluation," said Dedi via text message.

After all, said Dedi, Purbaya did not seem to make populist activities and always consistently talk about finance and budget.

The names of Purbaya that went viral among the community were compared to the Governor of West Java, Dedi Mulyadi, the former Governor of Jakarta Anies Baswedan, and Vice President Gibran. However, according to Dedi, Purbaya's steps were different from the three names.

"Purbaya always talks about finances and budgets, unlike Dedi Mulyadi, Anies, even Gibran who does a lot of games," he said.

Dedi did not deny that currently the figure of Purbaya Yudhi Sadives is in public interest. However, he considered that it was still too early to discuss electability in the context of the 2029 presidential election due to unstable national political dynamics.

"That's more, because of Purbaya's performance and leadership style factors, so it's possible that Purbaya is on the radar, even though he himself tends not to look interested because he is impressively busy working," he said.

Dedi continued, a person's high electability is not very influential in the current political contestation, which is quated by political parties. He also mentioned Gibran's status when welcoming the 2024 presidential election, which was not included in the top three for electability. Even so, the eldest son of the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, remains the vice presidential candidate to accompany Prabowo with high electability.

"Gibran was proposed, of course, the factor of power, not because of capacity or electability," he said.
