Final Round Of Joss Whedon's Discriminatory Practices At Justice League Shooting Set

JAKARTA - The case of discrimination by director Joss Whedon entered the final round this December. More than 80 people followed the investigation process, one of which was the Wonder Woman actor Gal Gadot

A little flashback, the case began with a tweet by actor Ray Fisher who wrote about Joss Whedon's treatment during the shooting of Justice League.

"Joss Whedon's treatment of Justice League cast and crew was rude, abusive, unprofessional and unacceptable," the Cyborg cast said in July. This discriminatory act was also shared by Justice League producers Geoff Johns and Jon Berg.

Joss Whedon declined to comment on Fisher's claims. Meanwhile, producer Berg stated that they reject any unprofessional behavior on set.

Unfair Treatment

Fisher's tweet received support from fans and fellow public figures, one of which was Jason Momoa, who asked WarnerMedia to thoroughly investigate this case. A few moments later, the Aquaman actor also criticized Warner Bros. for announcing his new project at a time when Fisher criticized him. Momoa thought this was done by Warner to silence Fisher.

Last August, Warner Bros. responded to Fisher's claim by saying they were trying to investigate but the actor refused to meet. Fisher said John had summoned him to the office and reprimanded his actions with a few veiled threats that the actor's career would end.

To Vanity Fair, Fisher revealed that Whedon made threats, coercion, ridicule, unsafe working conditions, belittled others, and gaslighted. Not only did he get discriminated against, some artists who were black or other races also received the same treatment. Scenes featuring black actors like Joe Morton, Zheng Kai, and Karen Bryson are cut in Justice League.

For five months Whedon never commented. However, when he opted out of production for HBO's latest series, The Nevers, last month, fans suspected this was related to WarnerMedia's investigation of Fisher's claims. Whedon has not provided an official explanation.

Investigation Completed

On December 11, WarnerMedia stated that they had completed their investigation on the set of Justice League. "The WarnerMedia investigation into the Justice League film has been completed and remedial action has been taken."

WarnerMedia did not provide an explanation of what facts they discovered and what actions they took. However, in a WarnerMedia statement which Fisher rewrote on social media, the company appreciated Fisher's step in speaking out the truth for a good work environment for employees and partners.

Even so, Ray Fisher thinks there are still many things that need to be resolved. "Thank you all for all the support on this journey."

Wonder Woman actor Gal Gadot is one of about 80 people who take part in the investigation process. The Israeli-born actress explained that she was not in the same location as Fisher at the time of the incident but she shared her experiences working with Whedon.

“I had experiences with (Joss Whedon) where it wasn't really fun but I got over it when it happened. I spoke to executives and they took care of it. But I am glad Ray (Fisher) expressed his honesty. "
