The Minister Of Home Affairs Ensures That The March 1 Proposal As A National Holiday Is Processed

YOGYAKARTA - Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian ensured that the proposal for March 1 as a National Holiday with the name State Sovereignty Enforcement Day was immediately processed and discussed with the inter-ministerial committee.

"Whatever the results of the inter-ministerial committee meeting, will be submitted to the Minister of State Secretary to be proposed to the President of the Republic of Indonesia," Minister Tito during a dialogue with Yogyakarta Governor Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X with the DIY OPD at Gedhong Pracimasana, Kepatihan complex, Yogyakarta, quoted by Antara, Monday, November 1.

According to Tito, there are two parties that must follow up on the proposal, namely the DIY Regional Government itself through socialization activities and the Ministry of Home Affairs by establishing an intense relationship with the DIY Regional Government as well as preparing further steps.

Tito also emphasized that the substance of the State Sovereignty Enforcement Day was one of the important points to remind that Indonesia's independence was not achieved by gifts.

"This big incident also happened for 6 hours in Yogyakarta which eventually caused a public reaction in the government," said the Minister of Home Affairs.

In Tito's view, this event finally opened the eyes of the world to the existence and existence of Indonesia.

Furthermore, Tito also explained several steps from the Ministry of Home Affairs based on the results of the evaluation meeting on Tuesday (21/10) in Jakarta.

The results of the meeting, said the Minister of Home Affairs, all ministries, and institutions present at the meeting supported the proposal on March 1 as a National Holiday.

On the other hand, Tito continued, the results of the meeting also targeted March 1, 2022, to be commemorated as a National Holiday. For this determination, it must be officially regulated through a Decree of the President of the Republic of Indonesia.

Sultan said the essence of this proposal was to remind the importance of efforts to uphold national sovereignty through the spirit of unity and integrity.

Sri Sultan also appreciated Minister Tito's willingness to follow up on the proposal from the DIY Regional Government.

The proposal was to commemorate the General Offensive of March 1, 1949, which was a response to the Dutch Military Aggression II on the occupation of the Indonesian capital in Yogyakarta, which could not be separated from the roles of Sri Sultan HB IX and the Great Commander General Sudirman.

"In our proposal, we do not identify anyone who was involved in the nation's struggle on March 1st. We only take that momentum in the context that history is about upholding sovereignty," said Sri Sultan.
