Ministry Of Law And Human Rights Gives Explanation Of Tangerang Prison Fire To Komnas HAM

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Kemenkum HAM) gave an explanation to the National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) regarding the fire incident at the Class I Penitentiary (Lapas) Tangerang, Banten.

"Our arrival is to provide a clear explanation regarding the Tangerang Class I prison fire incident on September 8, 2021," said Director General (Dirjen) of Human Rights at the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, Mualimin Abdi, quoted by Antara, Monday, November 1.

The arrival of the Director-General of Human Rights and his entourage were also a form of good faith and responding to complaints from a number of victims' families who had previously visited the National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM) regarding several matters.

He said the Ministry of Law and Human Rights and Komnas HAM had agreed that the relevant ministries had tried to take the best possible actions for the incident that killed 49 prisoners.

The efforts that have been made have started from treating the victims, curing the bodies to giving a sum of money as compensation to the heirs.

"The Ministry of Law and Human Rights has provided the best for the families of the victims," said Mualimin.

To Komnas HAM, Mualimin said that what the Kemenkumham was doing was solely so that the families of the victims were given easy and open access.

In addition, the Ministry of Law and Human Rights will also open a dialogue or communication space with the victim's family if there are still people who feel dissatisfied or awkward with the handling of the disaster.

Whether it's a matter of managing bodies, providing information, and other things, the Ministry of Law and Human Rights continues to open a communication room for all heirs.

"So if in the implementation there are still people who are not satisfied or there are questions that need to be asked, the Ministry of Law and Human Rights will provide the widest possible information," he said.
