Police Arrest Syndicate Of Counterfeit Money In Jember, Buy From Facebook For Rp. 500 Thousand, Sold For Rp. 1 Million

JEMBER - Police arrested the perpetrators suspected of being a syndicate of counterfeit money dealers in Jember Regency, East Java.

"We thwarted a syndicate circulating counterfeit money and arrested a perpetrator with the initials JN and confiscated evidence in the form of counterfeit money worth Rp.2,750,000 in Ledokombo District," said Jember Police Chief AKBP Arif Rachman Arifin, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, October 26.

According to him, the perpetrator with the initials JN (31), who is suspected of being a dealer of counterfeit money, was arrested at a railroad crossing in Pasar Hamlet, Ledokombo Village, Ledokombo District.

"The disclosure and arrest of the perpetrator with the initials JN stems from reports from the community in that place which are often used as transactions for buying and selling counterfeit money," he said.

The evidence confiscated by the police was 25 pieces of Rp100 thousand notes issued in 2014 and issued in 2016, then two notes in Rp10 thousand notes issued in 2013 and issued in 2016, as well as 10 notes in Rp5 thousand notes issued in 2016.

"The suspect admitted that he bought counterfeit money from someone through Facebook with a purchase price of Rp. 500,000 and the counterfeit money was planned to be resold by the suspect to someone with a selling price of Rp. 1 million," he said.

Arif said that the suspect was charged with the suspicion of distributing or ordering to distribute it similar to the original as referred to in Article 36 paragraph (2) in conjunction with Article 26 paragraph (2) of the Republic of Indonesia Law No. 7 of 2011 concerning Currency, Sub Article 245 of the Criminal Code with a penalty of 15 years in prison.

The police appealed to the public to always be aware of the circulation of counterfeit money when buying and selling transactions, by recognizing the characteristics of the authenticity of rupiah currency.
