Anticipating Natural Disasters, Governor Khofifah: Everyone Must Build Synergy

SURABAYA - The Governor of East Java, Khofifah Indar Parawansa, reminded all lines of synergy to prepare and anticipate natural disasters in the local area.

"All policy makers must have built synergies in preparing everything related to the possible consequences of disasters," said Governor Khofifah on the sidelines of leading an assembly of troops and equipment in the context of contingency preparedness for natural disaster management at Makodam V/Brawijaya in Surabaya, reported by Antara, Monday, October 25.

He said it was estimated that the peak of the rain would be in November to January or February 2022, which is often known as a hydrometeorological natural disaster.

According to Khofifah, hydrometeorology can occur due to extreme weather or very high intensity rain. Hydrometeorology can also result in landslides and could be due to global climate change.

"Forkopimda in the ranks of the provincial, district/city governments, all Basarnas volunteers, all have to synergize in preparing, doing mitigation, to be able to anticipate everything that must be done comprehensively," he said.

The number one person in the ranks of the East Java Provincial Government assesses that every natural disaster has the potential to increase poverty, it can even reach above 50 percent.

"Well, 80 percent of East Java has the potential for the possibility of natural disasters. This hydrometeorological disaster can result in damage to infrastructure, houses, because it can also coincide with a tornado, there is rain, there is a tornado, there are landslides and so on," he said. .

Governor Khofifah also reminded that every region that has received disaster preparedness training must prepare its volunteers, because scientifically it can be predicted.

Meanwhile, at the Governor's contingency meeting, provincial Forkopimda officials were accompanied by Pangdam V/Brawijaya Major General TNI Suharyanto, East Java Police Chief Inspector General Nico Afinta, and Kaskoarmada II Admiral TNI Rahmad Jayadi.

The rally was attended by 825 personnel consisting of members of the TNI/Polri, the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) and the East Java Provincial Health Office.

The equipment used for handling natural disasters includes ambulance vehicles, victim evacuation trucks, COVID-19 hunter vehicles, bidhumas videotron vehicles, emergency generators, rubber boats, BPBD emergency tents and the East Java Provincial Social Service, as well as fully equipped public kitchens.
