Surabaya City Wins The Cleanest Air Award In Southeast Asia

SURABAYA - The city of Surabaya, East Java, won the ASEAN Environmentally Sustainable City (ESC) category for the Cleanest Air in Big Cities.

"The city of Surabaya is considered capable of dealing with emissions, pollution, and that's what we did in Surabaya, so that we received this award," said Surabaya Mayor Eri Cahyadi after receiving the award at "The 5 ASEAN ESC Award and the 4 Certificate of Recognition", as reported by Antara, Thursday, October 21.

After receiving the award, Mayor Eri said that there were several categories in this award, namely clean air, clean land, and clean water. Meanwhile, the city of Surabaya received an award in the category of clean air (clean air) throughout ASEAN.

According to Eri Cahyadi, the cleanest air award at the ASEAN level is the first time that Surabaya has won. Because, he continued, so far Surabaya has never received this kind of award at the ASEAN level.

"It is only in 2021 that we get this award," he said.

Eri Cahyadi also explained how Surabaya deals with emissions and air pollution, one of which is by increasing green open space (RTH). In addition, the city government also always makes the best innovations for the people and the city of Surabaya, both in terms of water, land, and air.

"We are developing it continuously," he said.

The Mayor of Surabaya gave an example of a number of mangroves scattered at several points in the city of Surabaya. The mangroves continue to be developed into tourist attractions, so that they can reduce pollution and can improve the function of the soil, improve the function of the water and perform several treatments on the water.

"That's what we continue to do and that, God willing, will be one of the assessments," he said.

Even so, Mayor Eri Cahyadi emphasized that the main goal was not awards. But what is most desired is that everything he does has an impact on health and can benefit the people of Surabaya City.

"Once again the main goal is not awards, but we always want to do the best for the good of the people of Surabaya City, whether it's from water, land, air, and we develop it continuously," he said.
