Medan Merchant Extortion Thugs Who Shouted 'You Call All The Police Officers, I'm Not Afraid' Arrested By The Police

MEDAN - A video of bickering between merchants and thugs in Medan, North Sumatra, has gone viral on social media. The incident took place at Sambu Market, District of West Medan.

This thug video was recorded by a merchant named Dameria. She admitted that she could not stand being asked for security money every day. Because she refused to pay, the thug was angry while insisting he was not afraid of anyone, including the police.

"You call all the Police, don't be afraid of me", said the thug who taunted Dameria in the video.

Dameria when confirmed, said the commotion occurred on, Wednesday, September 22. The perpetrators are thugs who collect security money of IDR 2,000 every day.

At that time Dameria refused to give money. Because the merchandise is getting less and less buyers during the COVID-19 pandemic.

"He is quoting IDR 2,000 every morning. While even eating snacks for my son, I can't give (even though) IDR 1,000", She said.

Feeling burdened, Dameria refused the thug's request. But the thugs threaten the safety of selling Dameria.

Because of the man's words, Dameria immediately recorded it and shared it on social media. She hopes that the police will act decisively so that her safety is guaranteed and she can sell comfortably.

Separately, the Chief of the West Medan Police, AKP Tina Pulitawati confirmed the incident. Currently, said AKP Tina, her party arrested the perpetrators, namely Roni (29) and Selvi (35).

"It's true, there is a viral video that happened at the New Sambu Tax. The Criminal Investigation Team has arrested 2 perpetrators, a man and a woman", said AKP Tina, Wednesday, September 22.

Both actors are members of a youth organization. The perpetrator was arrested in the vicinity of the market.

"For the perpetrator's confession, this (extortion) is often carried out every day in their work, approximately 16 stalls were asked by them. The value was IDR 2,000 with the excuse of money for fostering an organization", she explained.

Police are still investigating the two perpetrators of extortion. The victim has also made a report to the West Medan Police.
