JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) said the Pasar Rumput flats which had just been inaugurated could accommodate residents affected by the Ciliwung River normalization program.

This was conveyed before the inauguration of the flats which were built since 2016 at a cost of Rp970 billion.

"I am also happy to hear that this flat will later be able to accommodate people from the Ciliwung River side who are affected by the river normalization program for flood management," Jokowi said as quoted from the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube, Monday, September 20.

He hopes that the existence of these flats can ease the burden on the community, especially those related to the provision of comfortable and affordable housing.

In addition, Jokowi hopes that the flats can help facilitate productive community activities.

Moreover, the Pasar Rumput Flat was built with the concept of mixed used development, which not only consists of 1,984 units of type 36 but also hundreds of kiosks and stalls on the 1st and 2nd floors as well as other facilities.

"The existence of a market with complete social and public facilities makes it easy for residents to carry out economic activities such as trading and carrying out their economic activities," said the former governor of DKI Jakarta.

Furthermore, Jokowi also said that this flat is special because it has good transportation routes and is integrated with Transjakarta. Thus, the residents will have easy access to public transportation.

"I hope that the operation of the Grass Market Flats can help our brothers and sisters to have decent and comfortable housing with strategic locations to carry out economic activities," said Jokowi.

During the inauguration ceremony, President Jokowi was accompanied by DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan and PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono. The three had time to walk around and talk with the traders who occupy the stalls on the ground floor of the Grass Market Flats.
