Police Thwart Smuggling 5,052 Ecstasy From Belgium In Dog Food Packages

JAKARTA - Polda Metro Jaya foiled an attempt to smuggle 5,052 ecstasy pills from Belgium, which were sent using the FedEx expedition service. Thousands of pills were put into the dog food package.

"We have secured around 5,052 ecstasy pills that were camouflaged into cans of animal food or dog food," said the Head of Public Relations of the Polda Metro Jaya Kombes Yusri Yunus to reporters, Friday, September 17.

The disclosure of the smuggling attempt began when information was obtained about the shipment of ecstasy from Belgium. Shipping is called via FedEx expedition.

This information is investigated by the police. It turned out that the package was indeed in the FedEx warehouse in Meruya Ilir, West Jakarta. The police waited for two days, until finally on September 16, an online motorcycle taxi took the package.

"Then the team followed and succeeded in securing BP when BP's brother received the package in the form of cans of animal food," said Yusri.

Upon inspection, it turned out that BP was just a courier. He was paid Rp 7,500 for each ecstasy pill. If it is calculated the profit reaches Rp. 35 million for the delivery.

Then, investigators developed the case. From BP's statement, it is known that the one who gave the order was a prisoner with the initials I.

"We are coordinating with the Ministry of Law and Human Rights and our Lapas to carry out inspections. Also in the same (role) initials I only get a quota of IDR 2,500 per item, so it's more or less (profit) IDR 10 million," said Yusri.

It didn't stop there, re-development was carried out. It turned out that the circulation of thousands of ecstasy was controlled by an inmate with the initials P. He is a foreign national (foreigner) from Nigeria.

"Going up again, (the controller) is a prisoner in that place (the same prison) he is a Nigerian citizen," said Yusri.

The perpetrators were charged with Article 115 Subsidiary 114 paragraph 2 Subsidiary 112 of RI Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics.
