JAKARTA - The National Commission for Post-Immunization Adverse Events (Komnas KIPI) concluded that there was insufficient evidence to link the cause of death of Trio Fauqi Virdaus to the AstraZeneca vaccine.

"The results of the autopsy on the body of Trio Fauqi Virdaus were carried out by the Forensic Department of Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital (RSCM)," said Komnas KIPI Chairman Hindra Irawan Satari in a written statement received in Jakarta, Antara, Monday, August 2.

The autopsy of the corpse was carried out with great care involving a team of professional and independent doctors. In fact, said Hindra, it took quite a long time.

"In conclusion, there are no signs that the victim died from the vaccine. The autopsy results also did not show any blood clots, which have been suspected to have been caused by the AstraZeneca vaccine," he said.

According to Hindra, the autopsy was carried out at the request of the family to the Forensic Team of Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital (RSCM) Jakarta. Although the autopsy results show that there is not enough evidence, Hindra said, this is a serious note for Komnas KIPI.

''As an independent institution that has been established since 23 years ago, this incident will of course be a record for us. We have instructed our members in all provinces and districts/cities throughout Indonesia to continue to monitor the implementation of vaccinations, especially the COVID-19 vaccination. If a similar case is found, then Komnas KIPI will conduct a re-examination,'' he said.

Head of the Forensic Department, Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital, Dr. Ade Firmansyah Sugiharto, said that from the autopsy results, it was known that a number of symptoms and signs were found to be different from the symptoms caused by the vaccine.

''For example, the deceased died approximately 24 hours after being vaccinated. In some cases, death is suspected to be due to the AstraZeneca vaccine, usually only four days or even two weeks after vaccination. In addition, the deceased also did not experience shortness of breath and seizures,'' he said.

Spokesperson for the COVID-19 Vaccination of the Indonesian Ministry of Health, Siti Nadia Tarmizi, reminded the public if they experience AEFI to immediately consult with the relevant parties.

''Anticipating the occurrence of AEFI is one of the focuses of government attention. For this reason, we are working with the National AEFI Commission at the national level, and the KIPI Komda, which is spread across the regions, continues to monitor and educate the public what to do if an AEFI occurs," he said.

For vaccine recipients who feel there are side effects after vaccination, said Nadia, they can come directly to the health service facility where the vaccination is done. "To report, no conditions are needed," he said.
