BMKG: Jayawijaya and Merauke have the potential for lightning rain Monday, August 10

JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts that the weather in most areas of Indonesia will be dominated by cloudy to rainy conditions on Monday, August 10.

BMKG Praktirawan Miftah Ali said that a number of areas were potentially experiencing light to moderate rain with lightning. The public in a number of areas was also asked to be aware of weather conditions that could disrupt activities.

"For western Indonesia, it is anticipated that there is a potential for light rain in Medan, Pekanbaru, and Serang," said Miftah Ali in a weather forecast broadcast quoted by Antara Jakarta, Monday morning.

Meanwhile, most cities in the western region of Indonesia are expected to experience cloudy to cloudy weather. This condition has the potential to occur in Banda Aceh, Padang, Tanjung Pinang, Jambi, Bengkulu, Pangkalpinang, Jakarta, Bandung, Semarang, Surabaya, Pontianak, and Banjarmasin.

In addition to rain and cloud cover, BMKG also reminded of the potential for smoke or fog in Tanjung Selor. The hazy air condition is expected to occur in Palembang, Bandar Lampung, Yogyakarta, Palangka Raya, and Samarinda.

Turning to the eastern part of Indonesia, BMKG issued a warning of the potential for lightning in Jayawijaya and Merauke.

"For the eastern part of Indonesia, it is anticipated that there is the potential for lightning in Jayawijaya and Merauke," said Miftah.

Light rain is also likely to occur in Mataram, Nabire, and Jayapura.

Meanwhile, sunny cloudy, cloudy, to thick clouds are predicted to dominate Denpasar, Kupang, Makassar, Mamuju, Kendari, Palu, Gorontalo, Manado, Ternate, Ambon, Sorong, and Manokwari.

BMKG reminded that the forecast is a general picture of weather conditions and can change according to atmospheric developments.
