Political Analyst: Public Questions Alleged Involvement of “Powerful Figures” in Ex-Jampidsus Case

JAKARTA - Political observer of the National University (Unas), Firdaus Syam, assessed the handling of the case of alleged corruption (Tipikor) and alleged money laundering (TPPU) cases that ensnared the former Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus), Febrie Adriansyah, as an important test for the commitment to law enforcement. According to him, the public is now questioning the possibility of influential parties or "powerful people" who are suspected of having links to the case.

Firdaus made the statement in a discussion held by the Indonesian Youth Congress Association entitled "Unmasking the Corruption Network Behind the Ex-Jampidsus Case: Who is the Actor? Who benefits?" in Jakarta, Friday, August 7.

According to Firdaus, the case is suspected of not standing alone because it is related to abuse of power and governance issues that need to be thoroughly investigated.

He said that the emergence of public questions regarding the possibility of the involvement of other parties was a natural thing. The public, he said, wants to know if there are other actors who are suspected of having a role in the case.

"Public questions can only be answered through a professional, independent, and integral investigation and investigation process. Therefore, no party should be protected in the disclosure and development of this case," said Firdaus.

Firdaus assessed that the success of law enforcement in the case depends heavily on the existence of political will (political will) to investigate the case thoroughly without discrimination.

According to him, the case is one of the important tests for the state's commitment to upholding the rule of law. He also believes that if the handling of the case is carried out independently and transparently, public confidence in law enforcement institutions can be restored.

"This case, in my opinion, does not stand alone. Because it needs to be opened widely so that all parties suspected of being involved can be revealed according to the applicable legal process," he said.

Firdaus added that a transparent and accountable case handling process would be an important factor in maintaining public confidence in law enforcement.

"If this case is not handled properly, the public can lose hope in law enforcement. Therefore, the process must be closely monitored and carried out openly in accordance with legal provisions," he said.

The discussion featured a number of speakers from various fields, namely the expert on money laundering (TPPU) Yenti Garnasih, business law expert at Bina Nusantara University (Binus) Muhammad Reza Syarifuddin Zaki, former KPK investigator Yudi Purnomo Harahap, and Firdaus Syam as a lecturer in Political Science at National University.

The activity was attended by participants from various circles, ranging from student representatives, youth organizations, researchers, practitioners, to the general public. The forum aims to encourage public participation in monitoring the handling of alleged Tipikor and TPPU cases so that it takes place in a transparent, accountable, and according to legal provisions.
