Jakarta July 2026 Annual Inflation Reaches 2.50 Percent, Transportation and Gold Prices Become Main Triggers

JAKARTA - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of DKI Jakarta Province recorded an annual inflation in July 2026 at 2.50 percent, even though the capital city experienced deflation of 0.15 percent on a monthly basis.

The annual price increase is influenced by almost all spending groups. The biggest pressure comes from the transportation and personal care sectors, which have experienced a fairly high increase compared to other groups.

Head of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Statistics Agency Kadarmanto said that the development of the prices of various commodities in July 2026 generally showed an increase.

Based on the results of monitoring the IHK city in the DKI Jakarta Province, in July 2026 there was a y-on-y inflation of 2.50 percent or an increase in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) from 107.40 in July 2025 to 110.09 in July 2026," Kadarmanto said in a press release, Tuesday, August 4.

Meanwhile, pressure on prices in the monthly period began to ease. BPS recorded a month-to-month deflation of 0.15 percent, while year-to-date inflation was recorded at 1.49 percent.

The transportation expenditure group became the largest contributor to annual inflation with price increases reaching 5.30 percent. Followed by the personal care and other services group at 8.39 percent, and the food and beverage/restaurant provider group at 2.31 percent.

Kadarmanto explained that annual inflation occurred because all expenditure groups experienced an increase in the price index. "Y-on-y inflation occurs due to an increase in commodity prices as indicated by the increase in the price index for all expenditure groups," he said.

In terms of commodities, jewelry gold is one of the main contributors to Jakarta's inflation in July 2026. In addition, the increase in gasoline prices, air transportation, rice, cooking oil, broiler chicken meat, to education costs also put pressure on inflation.

Other commodities that also contributed to the increase in prices include beef, fried chicken, domestic helper wages, rice with side dishes, online two-wheeled vehicle fares, academies/universities, and household fuel.

Although annual inflation is still occurring, a number of food items have actually experienced a price decline. Red onions, broiler eggs, tomatoes, sweet peas, garlic, onions, red peppers, and potatoes are commodities that hold the rate of price increases.

In the monthly period, the July 2026 deflation was mainly influenced by the decline in the price of gold jewelry, air transportation, a number of chili and onion commodities, broiler eggs, broiler meat, and online transportation tariffs.

"In m-to-m terms, there was a deflation of 0.15 percent with the dominant commodities contributing to the m-to-m deflation in July 2026, including gold jewelry, air transportation, red chili, red onions, sweet peas, purebred chicken eggs, purebred chicken meat, online 2-wheel vehicle tariffs, oranges, fish, online 4-wheel vehicle tariffs, and tomatoes," said Kadarmanto.

BPS DKI Jakarta recorded that the transportation group provided the largest annual inflation contribution of 0.71 percent. Next, the personal care and other services group contributed 0.60 percent, the food, beverage, and tobacco group of 0.39 percent, and the restaurant group of 0.23 percent.
