Iran Executes Two Men for Sharing Sensitive Information with Israel's Mossad

Iran on Monday executed two men convicted of spying for Israel, the judiciary said, the latest executions in a wave of hanging sentences for espionage charges.

"Omid Behzad and Pouria Safvat were hanged this morning for sending sensitive military and security site coordinates to Mossad agents," Mizan News Agency reported, referring to Israel's foreign intelligence service, Al Arabiya reported from AFP (3/8).

It did not say when the two were arrested or tried, but said they were convicted of "espionage and collaboration with the Zionist regime."

"They helped the intelligence services achieve their goals by providing them with information about military and security centers during the war," Mizan added.

It is known that since the start of the war with Israel and the United States in February, Tehran has increased executions, with many convicts accused of spying for Israeli intelligence.

The number of executions in Iran has increased since the start of the war, which broke out on February 28 with a massive US-Israeli attack that killed Iran's supreme leader.

Iran is the second-largest country in the world after China with the highest number of executions, according to human rights groups including Amnesty International.

Authorities executed at least 1,639 people last year, a record high since 1989, according to Iran Human Rights, a Norway-based NGO, and Together Against the Death Penalty (ECPM), which is based in Paris.
