Police Name 3 Suspects in Case of Forced Carrying of Toddler Due to Arisan Debt

MAKASSAR - Polrestabes Makassar has named three suspects in the case of allegedly forcibly taking a two-year-old toddler who, according to the results of the investigation, was allegedly used as a guarantee for his parents' online debt collection.

Head of Public Relations of Makassar Police, Kompol Wahiduddin, said the three suspects with initials SS (31), ND (32), and SD (32) had been detained to undergo further legal proceedings.

"The three perpetrators, each with the initials SS, aged 31 years, ND and SD, aged 32 years, have been named as suspects and are undergoing further legal proceedings," he said, quoted by ANTARA, Saturday, August 1.

According to investigators, the three suspects are suspected of forcibly taking the toddler because of the problem of online debt collection involving the victim's mother.

The victim was previously brought from the Tamalate District area, Makassar City, then transferred to the Pangkajene and Kepulauan Regency (Pangkep).

After finding out the whereabouts of the suspects, the Satreskrim team of Makassar Police arrested them in Pangkep and found the toddler in a safe condition before being returned to his parents.

Investigators are still investigating the role of each suspect, including the alleged mechanism of online borrowing, the amount of debt, and the possibility of the involvement of other parties in the case.

The three suspects were charged with Article 450 and/or Article 451 of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code (KUHP) with a maximum sentence of 12 years in prison.
