Chase corrupt assets, DPR ensures that the asset confiscation bill will continue to protect human rights

Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives absorbed various aspirations regarding the Asset Confiscation Bill related to criminal acts from the community in a number of regions during the V Session of the 2025-2026 Session Year.

The Chairman of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Habiburokhman, said that the preparation of the bill should not only depart from a national perspective, but also accommodate the characteristics of legal problems and criminal acts in each region.

"This is the commitment of Commission III of the DPR RI in ensuring that the process of forming laws takes place in an open, participatory, and accommodates various perspectives from stakeholders in the region," said Habiburokhman, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, July 28.

As for the recess so far, Commission III of the DPR has conducted working visits to Central Papua Province, North Maluku, and North Kalimantan. From the visit, he said that the community, including law enforcement officers, wanted the state to have stronger legal instruments to pursue the results of crimes, not just punish the perpetrators.

However, he also emphasized that the strengthening of state authority must still be balanced with protection of human rights, respect for the principle of due process of law, legal certainty, effective supervision, and protection of third parties with good intentions.

He also wants to ensure that the Asset Confiscation Bill will not only be a strong legal instrument, but also remain fair, proportionate, and does not open up room for abuse of authority.

He hopes that the formation of the bill can produce comprehensive, implementable regulations, and gain public legitimacy because it is drafted through a process involving the active participation of the public and stakeholders in various regions.

"Every input submitted during this recess will be an important material in the process of drafting the Asset Confiscation Bill related to Criminal Acts in Commission III of the DPR RI," he said.
