Before being charged, Murata underwent a psychiatric evaluation for about three months. The Tokyo District Public Prosecutor's Office seems to have concluded that Murata can be held accountable for his actions.
According to the indictment, Murata climbed the wall equipped with an anti-intruder fence on March 24. He then entered the Chinese Embassy compound while carrying a kitchen knife with a blade 18 centimeters long.
The indictment also said Murata threatened embassy staff. One of his remarks was, "A patriot will execute you on behalf of the Japanese gods."
Police had previously quoted Murata as saying he had entered the embassy compound to "express my opinion to the ambassador".
Murata is also said to have planned to commit suicide to "shock" embassy officials if his request was denied.

Kyodo said the incident occurred as relations between Japan and China deteriorated after Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi's statement in November.
