JAKARTA - The North Kalimantan Provincial Government (Pemprov) together with the DPRD discussed accelerating the handling of the Krayan Ring Road in Nunukan Regency with the Ministry of Public Works (PU) in Jakarta.
Deputy Governor of Kaltara Ingkong Ala said the results of the public hearing (RDP) with the residents of Krayan and the DPRD had been brought to the central government to find solutions.
"The discussion focuses on the construction method and funding scheme so that road construction in border areas can reach longer sections," said Ingkong Ala.
Ingkong revealed that his party had proposed that the handling of the Krayan Ring Road be adjusted to the geographical conditions of the border area.
"One of the proposals submitted is the use of aggregate pavement on a number of sections so that the length of the road that can be handled is more optimal," said Ingkong.
"We hope that the handling of roads can be adjusted to the field conditions so that the benefits can be felt more widely by the community," he continued.
Meanwhile, the head of the DPUPR-Perkim Kaltara Helmi explained that the proposal arose because the use of aggregate pavement was considered capable of expanding the scope of handling compared to if all sections used asphalt pavement.
"However, the implementation through the Presidential Instruction (Inpres) Road District scheme still refers to the central government's technical provisions which stipulate asphalt pavement as the standard," said Helmi.
Therefore, the North Kalimantan Provincial Government together with the Ministry of PU is still discussing a number of alternatives, including adjusting the width of the road pavement so that the available budget can reach a longer section.
"The proposed handling at priority points is also still being studied so that its implementation is effective. Coordination with the Ministry of PU and the Ministry of Finance will continue to be carried out, especially regarding the funding pattern of the Krayan Ring Road, which is currently financed through the Regional Road Inpres scheme even though it has the status of a provincial road," he said.
To note, the Krayan Ring Road has a length of around 90 kilometers which is divided into two segments, namely Long Bawan-Lembudud-Long Layu and Long Layu-Binuang. Most of the sections are still dirt roads so that they require gradual handling to improve community connectivity, facilitate logistics distribution, and support economic activities in border areas.
