JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) respects the steps taken by Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW) which reported Firli Bahuri's alleged ethical violation to the supervisory board on Friday, June 11. He even called this report a form of public control over anti-corruption agencies.

"We see this as a function of public control that is running well in the corruption eradication agenda carried out by the KPK," Acting KPK Spokesperson for Enforcement Ali Fikri told reporters quoted on Saturday, June 12.

Even so, he said that the ICW report related to the use of helicopters by KPK Chairman Firli Bahuri had actually been processed and the results were announced to the public on September 24.

However, his party does not object to the report made by anti-corruption activists and invites the KPK Supervisory Board to carry out its duties. "KPK still respects the duties and authorities of the KPK Supervisory Board for this report and fully submits it to the follow-up process," said Ali.

Furthermore, he emphasized that this report would not interfere with the work of eradicating corruption. "KPK is committed to continuing to carry out the entire agenda and strategy to eradicate corruption," he said.

"We are trying to solve corruption cases that were in arrears years ago and also to uncover new allegations of corruption cases indiscriminately," Ali added.

It is also ensured that all work to eradicate corruption will continue to be based on the provisions of the applicable laws.

As previously reported, ICW again reported Firli to the KPK Supervisory Board. This report relates to the use of a helicopter when he traveled from Palembang to Baturaja.

This is the second report that ICW has made regarding the alleged ethical violation by Firli. In 2020, this anti-corruption organization had reported Firli to the KPK Council for alleged ethical violations during a hand arrest operation (OTT) at the Jakarta State University (UNJ).

"Today ICW has reported back to Firli Bahuri on suspicion of violating the code of ethics," ICW researcher Kurnia Ramadhana told reporters at the KPK ACLC Building, South Jakarta, Friday, June 11.

In addition to reporting to the KPK Council, ICW, said Kurnia, has also reported Firli's alleged acceptance of gratification to the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Police.

He ensured that the report submitted this time was different from the ethical decision that had been handed down to Firli regarding the helicopter rental. It is known, some time ago, Firli had indeed been given a light ethical sanction by Tumpak Hatorangan Panggabean et al in the helicopter rental.

The reason is that ICW reported Firli's dishonesty regarding the value of the helicopter rental. Based on the information they got, the price for renting the Eurocopter (EC) helicopter, code PK-JTO, that Firli was traveling in was around Rp. 39 million per hour. Meanwhile, Firli said renting the helicopter was Rp. 7 million per hour.

Thus, the KPK Supervisory Board should be able to explore deeper into the helicopter rental receipt given by the KPK chairman. Moreover, ICW has also attached its findings.
