Prabowo Will Launch National Electric Motorcycle in a Few Weeks

MALANG - President Prabowo Subianto said that the national electric motorcycle will be launched in the next few weeks. He hopes that the domestically produced vehicles can be used by farmers in various areas.

"Soon we will have a national motorcycle. I will launch a national electric motorcycle in a few weeks," said Prabowo when attending the Simultaneous Harvest with the TNI in Malang, East Java, Friday, July 17, 2026.

Prabowo did not explain the name, manufacturer, price, specifications, or the exact time of the launch of the motorcycle.

He just hopes that the increase in farmers' income will make them able to buy vehicles.

"I hope that our farmers will at least ride motorbikes, electric motorbikes. Who knows if everyone uses cars," he said.

Prabowo then alluded to domestically produced vehicles that had been used by the TNI. He called the Maung jeep an example of a local product that was still chosen even though it was initially more expensive than foreign-made vehicles.

Prabowo admitted that he made the decision when he was the defense minister.

"I was offered, 'Sir, this jeep is good, cheap, foreign-made. It is made in Indonesia but expensive, sir.' Yes because we are starting. When will Indonesia have its own jeep?" he said.

He finally chose a more expensive vehicle, but produced in Indonesia.

"Yes, I chose a somewhat expensive but Indonesian-made one, namely Maung," said Prabowo.

According to the President, the TNI has used the jeep. A number of village development cadres or Babinsa have also started to get electric motorcycles.

Prabowo stated that Indonesia in the future must also be able to produce its own cars.

"We will have a motorcycle made by Indonesian children. We will have a car made by Indonesian children," he said.

Even so, Prabowo has not detailed whether the national electric motorcycle that will be launched is a new product or the development of a vehicle that has been used by the TNI.
