JAKARTA - Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono hopes that the situation in the Middle East will return to stability, following the mutual attacks between Iran and the United States which continue, hoping that all parties will respect the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that has been agreed upon together.
This was conveyed by the Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sugiono, after receiving his counterpart, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam, Le Hoai Trung, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Jakarta.
"Our position has not changed, we want the situation to be stable again, peace is achieved, the attack is immediately stopped," said Foreign Minister Sugiono, Tuesday (14/5).
Iran and the United States have been exchanging blows since last week, amid efforts to reach a ceasefire to end the escalation, which has an impact on the region and globally.
Washington blames Tehran for attacks on commercial vessels sailing through the Strait of Hormuz.
The State of the Mullahs and the Uncle Sam State, which have been involved in tensions since February 28 and triggered an escalation in the Middle East, actually agreed to a ceasefire on April 8, and signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between President Donald Trump and President Masoud Pezeshkian on June 18, followed by the Lake Lucerne Summit in Switzerland on June 21, which brought a fresh wind to the conflict that would soon subside.
"There is already a MoU, we hope that it can be respected by both parties," explained the Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs.
"Because whatever happens there, directly affects our lives here," he said.
It is known that US President Donald Trump said the deal with Iran ended along with the outbreak of the latest escalation.
Meanwhile, mediators such as Pakistan and Qatar continue to make efforts to save the peace efforts and ease tensions.
Iran on Monday said it was continuing talks with mediators from Qatar, Pakistan and Oman in a bid to prevent further escalation in their war with the United States.
