JAKARTA - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) or KAI has completed the development of the 6, 7, and 8 tracks of the Bogor Station as part of the preparation for the operation of the Commuter Line KRL with a formation of 12 trains (SF12). This step is taken to increase the capacity of services on the Bogor Line while reducing passenger density, especially during rush hours.
KAI Corporate Communication Vice President Anne Purba said that the strengthening of the infrastructure was carried out in line with the high mobility of customers on the Bogor Line. During Semester I 2026, the crossing served 78,077,679 customers or an average of around 431,368 passengers per day.
"Hundreds of thousands of customers rely on Bogor Line every day to work, study, and carry out various activities. Therefore, the development of services is prepared by looking at customer needs since entering the station, waiting on the platform, getting on the KRL, until arriving at the destination," said Anne in an official statement, Sunday, July 12.
According to Anne, the development of platforms 6, 7, and 8 will provide greater flexibility in the arrangement of the arrival and departure of the SF12 commuter train. Previously, the three lines could only serve a series with a maximum formation of 10 trains (SF10).
KAI noted that activity at Bogor Station also continued to increase. During January to June 2026, the station served 18,451,462 customer movements, consisting of 9,371,057 incoming customers and 9,080,405 outgoing customers or an average of around 101,942 movements per day.
Anne explained, before being operated, the 6, 7, and 8 track platforms had undergone a series of joint tests involving infrastructure, facilities, and operations teams. Testing was carried out to ensure the readiness of the track, platform, overhead power line, SF12 train set, to the operating pattern.
"Joint testing ensures that facilities, infrastructure, and operating patterns are ready in line. The inspection is carried out carefully because the safety of customers and the reliability of travel are the main reference before the facility is used," said Anne.
The joint test is a continuation of the load test using the locomotive on June 29, 2026 and the operational trial of the KRL on July 1, 2026. The test results are the basis for improvement in the final stage before the facility is used for passenger service.
Anne said the development of the platform includes extending the track and platform, structural and architectural work, arranging overhead power lines, mechanical and electrical, and installing canopies to improve passenger comfort while waiting for trains.
KAI also coordinated the improvement of the infrastructure with the procurement of new KRL series. To date, 18 out of a total of 27 new series or 216 trains have been operating, consisting of 11 CRRC production series and seven production series from PT INKA (Persero). All CRRC series have strengthened services on the Bogor Line and Cikarang Line.
"The focus of strengthening the Bogor Line is the daily experience of customers. More adequate capacity, customer distribution on the platform, smoother boarding and disembarking, and reliable facilities are expected to help reduce congestion at times of high travel demand," said Anne.
During the final phase of the work, KAI together with KAI Commuter also prepared passenger flow arrangements, service information delivery, and the placement of officers at Bogor Station so that the operation of the SF12 Commuter Train could run optimally since it began serving customers.
