Indonesian and Iranian Foreign Ministers Exchange Views on Regional and Global Situation

JAKARTA - The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia Sugiono and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran Seyyed Abbas Araghchi exchanged views on the development of regional and global situations.

"The two ministers exchanged views on regional and global developments and emphasized the importance of resolving conflicts through dialogue, diplomacy, respect for state sovereignty, and international law," the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement received by Antara, in Jakarta, Saturday, July 11.

Sugiono made a working visit to Mashhad, Iran, and met with Araghchi. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the Indonesian delegation's presence in the funeral procession and final tribute to the late supreme leader of Iran Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.

At the meeting, the two men emphasized their commitment to continue strengthening bilateral relations through the improvement of more concrete cooperation in various priority areas.

In addition, Sugiono also encouraged the optimization of bilateral mechanisms to advance the implementation of various cooperation that provides tangible benefits for the people of both countries.

In addition to Sugiono, the Indonesian delegation was also attended by the Chairman of the MPR RI Ahmad Muzani, along with representatives from two Islamic community organizations (ormas), namely the Nahdlatul Ulama General Manager (PBNU) and Muhammadiyah.

The presence of the Indonesian delegation reflects the mission of peace, solidarity between countries, and respect for the Iranian people.

The Indonesian delegation also met with the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf to strengthen parliamentary diplomacy, inter-parliamentary exchanges, and strengthen people-to-people relations between the two countries.

The Iranian government has extended an invitation to the Indonesian government to pay the last respects to the late Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei at the Imam Reza Mausoleum complex in Mashhad.

The Indonesian delegation was the first official delegation to pay homage at the late's tomb, according to the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The visit of the Indonesian delegation reflects the close friendship between Indonesia and Iran, as well as confirms Indonesia's foreign policy consistency which is free and active in promoting peace, stability, and international cooperation.
