Ayatollah Ali Khamenei Buried in Imam Reza Mashhad Mausoleum

JAKARTA - The body of the late Supreme Leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was buried at his final resting place at the Imam Reza Mausoleum complex in Mashhad, northeast Iran.

Ali Khamenei's funeral took place in the Dar Al-Dhikr prayer hall in the Imam Reza Mausoleum complex on Thursday (9/7) evening local time.

Ali Khamenei's funeral ceremony, which has been taking place since last Friday (3/7), was attended by political officials representing more than 45 countries and scholars from more than 90 countries.

The procession began at the Grand Musalla of Tehran last weekend, where millions of people attended to pay their final respects. The procession then continued in Tehran on Monday (6/7).

After Tehran, the procession continued on Tuesday (7/7) at the Qom and Jamkaran mosques, then on Wednesday (8/7), a similar tribute ceremony took place in Najaf and Karbala, Iraq.

Following the funeral procession for almost a week, millions of mourners took part in the peak of the process in Mashhad, with the final release ceremony for the late Ali Khamenei taking place at the Imam Reza Mausoleum on Thursday.

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and a number of his family members were killed on February 28, 2026 or the first day of the US-Israeli aggression against the Islamic Republic of Iran.
