JAKARTA - US President Donald Trump said Spain had completely reversed course after he threatened to cut off trade ties. Madrid is alleged to have agreed to pay a large sum.

During the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) summit in Ankara, Trump called Spain a bad NATO partner. Trump also said the US no longer wants to have trade relations with Spain.

"However, Spain finally returned completely today. Spain is very generous today. They fulfilled the request to make many payments. Otherwise, we wouldn't even talk to them," Trump told reporters after leaving the NATO summit as reported by ANTARA from .Sputnik, Thursday, July 9.

Trump did not detail what Spain had agreed to fund.

Previously, Trump threatened to stop trade with Spain after the country became the only NATO member to refuse a commitment to increase defense spending to 5 percent of gross domestic product (GDP).

"Spain is a useless case. We don't want to do business with Spain anymore. I want you to stop it. I don't want to deal with Spain anymore. Decide on all trade with Spain, including visits," Trump said when meeting NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte.

Trumppun said that while looking at US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessentyang was accompanying him at the NATO Summit.

"I don't want any more trade with them (Spain). Implement it immediately. Don't talk to them. They have no hope," Trump said.

Responding to Trump's instructions, Bessent also answered briefly.

"Fine, sir," Bessent said.
