JAKARTA - The Speaker of the Iranian Parliament Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf confirmed that after the new wave of attacks by the United States against Iran, the Strait of Hormuz would only be opened according to Iranian rules and not because of threats from the US.
Through a post on the X platform, Thursday, July 9, Qalibaf said the US had not realized that intimidation and violations of promises could no longer be carried out without consequences.
"The United States has not learned that intimidating and reneging on promises can no longer be done without consequences. Let me make it clear: If you attack, you will also be attacked," said Qalibaf as quoted by ANTARA from Anadolu.
The statement was made after Iranian media reported a new wave of US attacks on Wednesday night (8/7) targeting a number of locations in southern and southeastern Iran.
The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) then stated that US forces launched a follow-up attack on Iran.
According to CENTCOM, the operation aims to further weaken Iran's ability to threaten freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
