Landslide in China's Gangsu Leaves Five Dead and 12 Missing

JAKARTA - A landslide hit an area in Tanchang County, Longnan City, Gansu Province, northwest China, on Tuesday morning, killing five people and leaving 12 missing.

The landslide occurred in Renzang Village, Nanhe District, at around 06.56, according to local authorities, as quoted by Xinhua (7/7).

A total of 33 people were buried under the rubble. Rescue teams said 21 people had been successfully evacuated by 14:50 local time. Five of them died despite having been given treatment.

A massive search and rescue operation was then carried out to search for and rescue the other 12 missing people.

Multi-department rescue efforts in Gansu are underway. Teams from the emergency management, fire control, medical services, public security, transportation, power supply, and telecommunications sectors have been mobilized to conduct search operations.

The Ministry of Natural Resources has activated the Level III geological disaster defense response, and sent a special working group to guide rescue and assistance efforts at the scene.

A total of 345 rescue workers and 10 tracking dogs have been deployed for the ongoing search efforts.

Xinhua reported that excavators cleared the ground, an ambulance was parked nearby, and several rescue teams were carrying out search, rescue and relocation work.

According to the Gansu Provincial Health Commission, four emergency medical teams, including intensive care units, trauma care, and pediatric care, along with 13 medical officers, have been dispatched to the region.

Three intensive care, orthopedic, and general surgery specialists from the Gansu Provincial People's Hospital have also been sent to guide treatment on site.

Local authorities have opened a special lane for medical treatment and set up a remote consultation platform to facilitate rescue work.
