JAKARTA - The government has decided to maintain the electricity tariff for 13 non-subsidized customer groups in the third quarter of 2026 (July-September) as a form of government support in maintaining people's purchasing power.

Head of the Government Communication Agency (Bakom) RI, Muhammad Qodari, said that this decision was still taken by the government even though based on the adjustment mechanism and the development of a number of economic indicators, the electricity tariff actually has the potential to increase. The government chose to maintain the tariff in order to provide certainty for the business world in the midst of the ongoing global economic dynamics.

"When referring to the existing tariff adjustment mechanism, the changes in various indicators actually lead to an increase in electricity tariffs. However, the government decided not to impose tariff adjustments because maintaining economic stability and people's purchasing power is the top priority," said Qodari in Jakarta, Monday, July 6.

According to Qodari, the government always places the interests of the community as the main consideration in every policy making. "For the government, the main priority is to provide certainty and tranquility for the community. One of them is by not raising electricity tariffs in the third quarter of 2026," he said.

He explained that the determination of the electricity tariff for non-subsidized customers refers to the Regulation of the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Number 7 of 2024 which evaluates the tariff every three months based on the development of the rupiah exchange rate, the Indonesian Crude Price (ICP), inflation, and the reference coal price.

Based on data from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, the realization of economic indicators in the period from February to April 2026 shows that the rupiah exchange rate is in the range of Rp16,959.32 per US dollar, the ICP price of 96.12 US dollars per barrel, inflation of 0.21 percent, and the reference coal price of 70 US dollars per ton. Based on these parameters, the actual electricity tariff leads to an upward adjustment, but the government chose to maintain it in order to maintain economic stability.

In addition to maintaining tariffs for non-subsidized customers, the government also ensures that the electricity tariff for 24 subsidized customer groups remains unchanged. Electricity subsidies are still provided to social customers, low-income households, small business actors, small industries, and MSMEs.

Qodari emphasized that this policy not only protects the community, but also provides certainty for the business world so that economic activities continue to run well.

"This decision also provides certainty for the business world. With fixed electricity tariffs, business actors can be more calm in planning production and investment activities, so that economic activities can continue to run well," he said.

Qodari added that the government would continue to monitor global and domestic economic developments to ensure that each policy remained on target and provided real benefits for the community.

"The government's focus remains the same, namely to maintain economic stability, protect people's purchasing power, provide certainty for the business world, and ensure that Indonesia's economic growth process continues to run strongly and sustainably," concluded Qodari.
