JAKARTA - A robbery that hit the museum of luxury glass manufacturer Lalique in northeastern France on Sunday morning resulted in a loss of nearly 4 million euros (around Rp82.2 billion).

As reported by ANTARA, Monday, July 6, the daily Le Parisien quoted a source in the investigation, a number of masked perpetrators forcibly opened the museum door, then destroyed six display shelves, and took away 20 pieces of crystal jewelry.

The museum will be closed for the next few days for damage inspection and strengthening of the security system.

"The gendarmerie is already involved and the investigation will take place according to their process," said the Lalique Museum in a statement via social media X.

The mayor of Wingen-sur-Moder, Christian Dorschner, told local daily Dernieres Nouvelles d'Alsace that the perpetrators were thought to have had information, because they immediately targeted the jewelry collection after breaking into the museum's door.

He said that although the museum's alarm system worked well, the museum security company did not immediately report the theft to the police.

Local authorities are now studying surveillance camera footage, with the investigation into the theft case being carried out under the responsibility of the Bas-Rhin Gendarmerie criminal investigation unit.

Le Parisien said the Lalique Museum had previously been listed on the list of vulnerable objects and had a status of "under special surveillance" following a major theft at the Louvre Museum in October 2025, in which a group of perpetrators attacked a number of objects worth 102 million US dollars (about Rp1.8 trillion).
