JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung revealed the cause of the garbage pile that went viral in front of Rusun Albo, Jalan Swadaya, RW 08, Cakung Barat Village, East Jakarta.

According to him, the problem occurred because of the reduced capacity at the Bantargebang Waste Treatment Plant, which had an impact on waste management in Jakarta.

Pramono said that the pile of garbage at the location had been handled after he received a report from the community. A total of 54 tons of garbage were successfully transported in the intensive cleaning process.

"Regarding the pile of garbage in Cakung, it happens that this pile is so crowded on social media and yesterday when I received a report from the community, I immediately ordered it to be cleaned. And thank God yesterday it was cleaned," said Pramono in Grogol, West Jakarta, Thursday, July 2.

Although the pile of garbage has been cleaned up, Pramono assessed that the incident was a picture of the Jakarta garbage problem that has not been completed. The reduced capacity at the Bantargebang Waste Treatment Plant (TPST) made the DKI Provincial Government have to accelerate the waste sorting program to reduce the burden of garbage sent to the location.

"But this is a note for all of us, events like this can happen because there is a waste problem in Jakarta. Because there is a reduction in the Bantargebang landfill, this results in the waste sorting being one of the programs that must be pursued," he said.

Pramono emphasized that waste management cannot entirely rely on the government. He asked the public to play a role by not throwing away garbage indiscriminately so that similar problems do not occur again.

"I ask the public not to throw away again, not to throw away garbage carelessly. Let's take care of Jakarta together to be more neat, cleaner, especially things related to garbage," said Pramono.

He also appreciated the community who actively reported problems in the field so that they could be immediately followed up by the government.

"We thank the input from the community and I have never objected to any form of report. But yesterday, about 54 tons of garbage were successfully cleaned," he said.

Previously, the Head of the Cakung District Environmental Implementation Unit, Encep Suryana, explained that the cleaning was carried out for two days, namely from June 30 to July 1, 2026. A total of 22 small typer trucks with a capacity of five tons and four large typer trucks with a capacity of 10 tons were deployed to transport all the garbage to the Bantargebang TPST in Bekasi.

To speed up the cleaning process, officers also operated mini excavators, shovel loaders, and road sweepers at the location.
