SEMARANG - Police are investigating an explosion of a production machine at one of the factories located in the Candi Semarang Industrial Estate, Central Java, which killed one person.

"One person died, seven other workers were burned," said Ngaliyan Police Chief Kompol Aliet Alphard, quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, July 1.

He explained that the accident at the PT Raw Botanical Nusantara factory occurred at around 09.56 WIB.

"The initial suspicion," he said, "was that the explosion originated from a sterilization tube in the production room.

"The tube exploded, then caught fire. The explosion caused damage to the roof of the factory," he said.

Firefighters and police officers immediately arrived at the location after receiving information about the incident.

Aliet said the Semarang Police Inafis had also carried out crime scene investigation and installed a police line at the scene.

"For the production results of the factory are still being investigated, because the products are exported," he said.

According to him, for the time being the factory was closed and stopped operating during the investigation process.

He added that further investigation would be handled by the Semarang Police to find out whether there were elements of criminal violations or not.
