Police Investigate Alleged Negligence in the Case of a Toddler Who Died After Being Crushed by a Manggarai Project Hole

JAKARTA - Police are still investigating the death of a toddler with the initials I (4) who died after being trapped in a hole in the construction project of the RW 04 Multifunctional Park at Jalan Manggarai Utara II, Tebet, South Jakarta.

The head of the Tebet Police, AKP Ischak, said that his party had examined a number of parties, including the project implementers, they were asked for information to uncover the cause of the incident.

"Yes, so at the time of the incident there were parties that we had called, both the project and parties from witnesses and others," he told the media, Tuesday, June 30, 2026.

Ischak stated that until now, the victim's family had not made a police report for the incident. Although there was no report, the investigation process continued and was also handled by the South Jakarta Metro Police.

"So until now there is no police report from the victim's family," he said.

Furthermore, Ischak, the alleged negligence is still being investigated by investigators. In addition, the investigators are also still collecting evidence and testimony from witnesses to find out whether or not there has been a violation in the implementation of the project.

"Regarding the alleged negligence, it is still in the stage of deepening the investigation," he said.

Based on the results of the initial investigation, said Ischak, the victim, who was known as Izra or Ocha, was playing with his friends around the project area.

At that time, the victim allegedly fell into the project hole with a depth of about 3.5 to 4 meters and a diameter of about 30 x 30 centimeters.

"The victim was trapped in the project hole while playing with his friends around the construction site," he said.

Meanwhile, the victim's colleague, continued Iscak, asked for help from the Manggarai Tactical Command Post (Poskotis) officers. The evacuation process was hampered by a narrow hole so that the rescue effort was manually by inserting a small-bodied personnel was unsuccessful, coupled with the victim's trauma.

Furthermore, said Ischak, his party coordinated with Damkar, Puskesmas Tebet, Tebet Hospital, and borrowed two excavators to help evacuate. Before the excavation, officers made a safe path on the side of the hole to prevent landslides and installed a police line so that residents would not hinder the rescue process.

"We collaborate with Damkar, medical personnel, and use two excavator units to accelerate the evacuation process while prioritizing the safety of personnel," explained Ischak.

The victim was finally evacuated at around 03.55 WIB and immediately taken to the Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital (RSCM) for medical treatment. Unfortunately, the life of the toddler could not be saved.

"The victim was successfully evacuated, but after receiving medical treatment, his condition was not helped and he was declared dead," he concluded.
