JAKARTA - Human Rights Minister Natalius Pigai asked law enforcement officials to process the perpetrators of the alleged kidnapping and persecution of a woman with the initials YTR (29) in Bandung Regency, West Java, without applying the restorative justice (RJ) restorative justice mechanism.

Pigai said the alleged physical and psychological torture of the victim had injured human dignity and dignity and caused long-term trauma so that the handling of the case must prioritize law enforcement.

"I ask for a legal process and there should be no restorative justice. They should be given a sentence so that the same act does not happen again in the future," he said as reported by ANTARA, Monday, June 29.

According to Pigai, the Ministry of Human Rights was one of the first agencies to go to the field through the West Java Regional Office to monitor the handling of the case.

He emphasized that the state must be present to ensure that victims receive justice and human rights protection.

Pigai assessed that the alleged persecution accompanied by physical and psychological torture not only injured the victim, but also had an impact on the family and instilled fear in the community, especially women.

Therefore, all legal provisions regarding the protection of women and children must be applied consistently.

According to him, women and children are vulnerable groups who must receive state protection through various institutions, such as the National Commission on Violence against Women (Komnas Perempuan), the National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM), and the Ministry of Human Rights.

"Human beings have a relationship between a man and a woman to take care of each other and protect each other, not to torture each other," he said.

Pigai also asked law enforcement officers to pay attention to the sense of justice of the victim and his family in handling the case.

According to him, the size of justice must consider the perspective of the victim and family, not solely the assessment of other parties.

The government, continued Pigai, will continue to encourage law enforcement against cases related to human rights violations so that they do not recur and ensure optimal protection for vulnerable groups.

Previously, the West Java Regional Police arrested Taufik Hidayat who allegedly confined and abused a woman with the initials YTR (29) in Bandung Regency for about three years.

Head of Public Relations of the West Java Police, Kombes Hendra Rochmawan, said Taufik was arrested in the Greater Bandung area. However, the police have not detailed the location or time of the arrest of the perpetrator.

The case was revealed after the victim's family received a message via the WhatsApp application from an unknown person who informed the victim was at the Emergency Hospital Installation of Hasan Sadikin Hospital (RSHS) Bandung.
