JAKARTA - The United States and Iran have agreed to stop attacking each other, a senior US official said, according to a report by Axios on Sunday.

In addition, the two sides anticipate a meeting on Tuesday in the Qatari capital, Doha, Axios said, to resolve their dispute over the Strait of Hormuz, a key corridor for oil shipments from the region, reported Al Arabiya (29/6).

An American official told Al Arabiya that technical talks between Tehran and Washington were going according to the schedule set, adding that the talks had not been canceled and would be held in the coming days.

Meanwhile, a member of the Office for the Preservation and Publication of the Works of the Supreme Leader of Iran, Mehdi Fazaeili, told state television that Iran was not participating in technical talks scheduled for Sunday due to recent attacks on the country and the terms of the MoU with the United States that had not been met.

"For example, one of the reasons is to check if we have access to the funds that have been disbursed. If there is no access, then this requirement has not been met," said Fazaeili.

It is known that the State of the Mullahs and the Uncle Sam State held peace talks with the mediation of Pakistan and Qatar at the Lake Lucerne Summit at the Burgenstock Resort, Switzerland, Sunday (21/6).

The Lake Lucerne Summit was held following the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, which consisted of 14 points and was signed by President Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian a few days earlier.

The US delegation was led by Vice President JD Vance. From the Iranian side there was the Speaker of Parliament Mohammad Bagher Galibaf. Meanwhile, Pakistan is led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Qatar is led by Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani.

The talks in Switzerland are the first stage of a two-month negotiation period set out under an initial deal agreed last week.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei later said the two countries' negotiations had been completed, with technical teams continuing work, quoted by CNN.

"The US and Iranian delegations in Switzerland discussed the remaining clauses needed to start final negotiations, including the release of frozen Iranian assets and obtaining an exemption from sanctions for the sale of Iranian oil," Baghaei said, adding "good progress has been made."

Last Tuesday, Iranian media reported that technical talks between Iran and the United States in Switzerland had been completed, with a negotiating group to be formed to discuss nuclear issues and sanctions.

The negotiators "decided that four working groups will be formed: Ending Sanctions, Nuclear Affairs, Economic Reconstruction and Development, and Monitoring and Implementation," the state news agency IRNA quoted Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi as saying.

Afterwards, Pakistan, which was a mediator in Iran's peace talks with the United States on Wednesday, said the two countries' technical discussions would continue this week.

"The talks will continue next week, I think on Tuesday," Pakistani Foreign Ministry spokesman Tahir Andrabi told reporters in Islamabad, adding Monday or Wednesday next week was also a possible start date and without giving details about the location of the discussions.

The negotiations, in which Pakistan and Qatar played a mediating role, aim to produce a final document within a 60-day deadline that can be extended.
