Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto reminded that the development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) brings new opportunities and threats to human life. Therefore, he asked universities to focus more on developing science and technology that benefits the community.
Prabowo conveyed this message when closing the National Sarasehan of the 2026 Science, Technology, and Industry Convention in Jakarta, Sunday, June 28.
According to Prabowo, the world is changing very fast so that Indonesia must be able to follow technological developments without losing control.
He gave an example of the development of AI which is now progressing very rapidly.
"Almost all countries are pursuing AI. But the inventors themselves have warned that AI could be a problem for humans," he said.
Prabowo even alluded to the emergence of Agent AI, an artificial intelligence system that is capable of working for individuals, companies, organizations, and even countries.
According to the information he received, the number of AI Agents has now reached millions and is even able to communicate using their own language.
"He said that there are now five million AI Agents and they have their own conversation space with their code language," he said.
Therefore, Prabowo asked Indonesian professors and researchers to study the development of AI so that Indonesia would not only be a user of technology.
On the other hand, he reminded the campus to remain a space for exchanging ideas, not a political confrontation arena.
"Universities are places for ideas, innovation, and academic freedom. The campus must actively develop science and technology that benefits the people," he said.
Prabowo emphasized that the government would continue to open a space for dialogue with academics. He even said he was ready to meet with rectors and professors more often to discuss various strategic issues of the nation.
