BANDUNG - The West Java Regional Police revealed that the suspect in the kidnapping and abuse case against a woman with the initials YTR in Bandung Regency, Taufik Hidayat, was a repeat offender of violence against his ex-wife.

West Java Police Chief Inspector General Rudi Setiawan said Taufik had previously been convicted in a similar case that occurred in Bandung City and sentenced to one year and four months in prison.

"This suspect is a repeat offender because he has committed similar violence against a woman and was sentenced to one year and four months in prison. The incident occurred in Bandung City," said Rudi, quoted by ANTARA, Friday, June 26.

Rudi emphasized that his party would trap the suspect with layered articles in order to obtain a commensurate punishment for his actions.

"West Java Police will maximize the application of the article against the suspect. We ask for the support of all parties so that the violence committed by the suspect receives a commensurate punishment," he said.

Based on the results of the preliminary investigation, the suspect is suspected of repeatedly abusing the victim using his bare hands, blunt objects such as iron, sharp weapons, helmets, and even stabbing the victim's body with cigarettes.

In addition, the victim was also allegedly detained in a dormitory room and was not allowed to leave because the door was locked from the outside.

"The act was repeated because the suspect felt upset and jealous of the victim," said Rudi.

He added that investigators were still completing evidence and coordinating with the West Java High Prosecutor's Office to optimize the legal enforcement process against the suspects.

Previously, Taufik Hidayat was named a suspect in the kidnapping and persecution case against YTR, which allegedly lasted for about three years in a boarding house in the Cileunyi area, Bandung Regency.

As a result of the incident, the victim suffered a number of serious injuries that affected his physical condition, including vision impairment, difficulty speaking, and being unable to walk normally.
