PALEMBANG - The South Sumatra Regional Police Narcotics Directorate thwarted an attempt to smuggle 6,000 ecstasy pills from Medan, North Sumatra, to Palembang City.

Director of Narcotics Investigation of the South Sumatra Police, Kombes Yulian Perdana, said the disclosure began with information about the delivery of narcotics from Medan to Palembang using a private vehicle.

The officers then conducted in-depth information and mapping of the vehicles used by the perpetrators. After the target vehicle was detected entering the South Sumatra region, the personnel monitored it until finally stopping the vehicle in Palembang City on Tuesday (23/6) at around 04.30 WIB.

The black Toyota Fortuner vehicle driven by the two suspects tried to avoid inspection so the officers chased after it before finally being able to stop it safely.

From the results of the operation, officers secured two suspects with the initials MZ (41), residents of Labuhan Batu Regency, and MH (35), residents of Medan City.

"From the vehicle, one bag containing ecstasy pills with a total number of 6,000 pieces was found," he said, quoted by ANTARA, Friday, June 26.

In addition to ecstasy pills, officers also seized 150 cartridges of etomidate consisting of 85 cartridges of the Thugs brand and 65 cartridges of the El Cape brand.

Other evidence that was also secured was a Toyota Fortuner car used as a means of transportation and two mobile phones that were allegedly used to communicate during the process of distributing narcotics.

Head of Subdirectorate I of the South Sumatra Police Narcotics Directorate, AKBP HM Syeh Kopek, added that investigators were still developing to uncover the network involved in the cross-provincial narcotics trade.

"Currently, the two suspects have been secured and are undergoing further investigation. We continue to develop to uncover other parties suspected of being involved in this network," he said.
