JAKARTA - In the midst of the rapid development of the digital content industry, the space for traditional performing arts is shrinking.

In Bali, one of the arts that is starting to be heard less is the operet, a performance that combines theater, music, dance, and literature on one stage.

This condition encourages the Ruang Kreasi Community to present PAKSI (Panggung Kreasi) 2026, a Bali-level operet festival which will be held on August 28-30, 2026 at Dharma Alaya Negara (DNA), Denpasar.

More than just an inter-student competition, this event is positioned as a regeneration space for prospective performing arts actors in Bali.

The Chairman of the Creative Space Community, Iko Putra Tara Tiyasa, said that the opera was chosen because it was one of the forms of art that was able to introduce various performance disciplines to young people.

In one operetta production, participants not only learn acting. They also write the script, work on the music, design the stage art, compose the choreography, and build team cooperation.

"Operet is an important foundation in building the ability of performing arts because all creative elements meet in one production," he said.

This year's festival has the theme of inspirational world figures. Through this theme, participants are invited to raise stories that contain leadership, courage, innovation, and social concern, then translate them into performances close to the lives of young generations.

The school's response to the first PAKSI was quite high. The committee originally targeted 16 participants, but until the closing of the registration, 17 theater groups from the middle and high school levels took part.

The Chairman of the PAKSI 2026 Committee, Ida Bagus Gde Santa Prasada, said the high interest of participants showed that performing arts actually still have a place among students if there is room to develop.

According to him, the biggest challenge today is not the low interest of the younger generation in art, but the lack of a platform that consistently gives them the opportunity to perform and work.

PAKSI also tries to answer the challenges of the digital era by utilizing social media as part of the promotional strategy. Various training content, creative processes, and behind-the-scenes stories will be published to reach a wider audience.

This approach was chosen so that performing arts would no longer be seen as an activity far from the lives of young people.

In addition to showcasing inspiring stories from around the world, the festival still maintains Bali's identity through the use of artistic elements, decorations, and local cultural touches in each performance.

In the future, the Creative Space Community hopes that PAKSI will not stop as an annual agenda, but will develop into a part of the national performing arts ecosystem that is capable of producing a new generation of Indonesian artists.

In the midst of the heavy flow of digital culture, the regeneration of art practitioners is a job that cannot be delayed. PAKSI 2026 shows that students not only need space to compete, but also space to learn, collaborate, and keep the art stage alive in the future.
