JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has ensured that the scholarship program for overseas study, which is touted as the Jakarta version of the LPDP, will begin in 2027.
The program, which is financed from the DKI Jakarta Regional Budget (APBD), will be managed by the DKI Provincial Government in collaboration with the Central Education Fund Management Agency (LPDP).
"For next year, in cooperation with the LPDP, Jakarta will have a LPDP that is fully managed by Jakarta," said Pramono at the DKI Jakarta City Hall, Wednesday, June 24.
Pramono said that in the initial phase, the number of scholarship recipients was targeted at around 50 to 75 students. This means that the quota for scholarship recipients is smaller than the initial plan which had been discussed to reach 100 people.
"Later, the students will be given the opportunity to go to school outside of working with the central LPDP," said Pramono.
In addition, Pramono emphasized that the presence of the overseas scholarship program would not reduce the allocation of education budget that has been used for the Smart Jakarta Card (KJP) and the Outstanding Jakarta Student Card (KJMU).
According to him, educational assistance for Jakarta students and students remains a priority for the DKI Provincial Government. Therefore, the number of KJP and KJMU recipients is ensured not to be reduced even though the local government prepares a new scholarship program.
"Until today, the program for the KJP Smart Jakarta Card and the KJMU Jakarta Student Card, both last year, this year, and next year, the number is more or less the same. Because I don't want the name KJP to be reduced," said Pramono.
"So, for things related to education, it is still a priority that we prioritize," he continued.
Previously, Pramono announced that his party had partnered with the Central Education Fund Management Agency (LPDP) to mature the LPDP program plan specifically for Jakarta.
Pramono said that the reason why the Jakarta Government partnered with the Central LPDP was to shorten the time so that the program could be realized immediately. Because, if the Jakarta-specific LPDP institution is established first, the process will take a long time.
"If the institution is established in DKI Jakarta, the process will take too long, even though we hope that next year the LPDP for Jakarta can start to be distributed," said Pramono, some time ago.
