JAKARTA - The Ministry of Environment (LH) of the Republic of Indonesia, sealed PT Beringin Petroleum Energy which manages waste of hazardous and toxic materials (B3) type of used oil without official permission in the Panongan District, Tangerang Regency, Banten.

"The activities in this company, namely processing used oil into Chemical Diesel Oil. And used oils from several related business fields are processed here using a very simple process," said Deputy Head of Environmental Law Enforcement at the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, Inspector General Rizal Irawan, as reported by ANTARA, Saturday, June 20.

He said that this waste management company was suspected of violating provisions related to environmental, technical, and air, land, and water pollution in the field of B3 waste management activities.

"Because in this process there are three violations. Whether it's the sentence, then the agreement, environmental disputes, including administration," he said.

Rizal revealed that based on the findings of this violation, the company will be subject to Articles 103 and/or 104 of Law Number 32 of 2009 concerning Waste Management Pollution and Environmental Protection and Management (PPLH).

"So I have conveyed to the owner that starting now stop the activities. I have brought the Director concerned, both the Criminal Director, Civil, and also from the administrative sanctions and supervisors in the action," he said.

He also said, based on the results of field inspections, the company was known to have been operating for a long time. They had stopped due to the COVID-19 pandemic but returned to activity in 2022 to 2026.

During its years of operation, he continued, this company collects used oil from several business fields, with a very simple process. Starting from storage, then processed through reactor management to produce processed products that cause pollution.

"Whether it is pollution from the air, we can also see that there are two chimneys without air pollution control (PPU) without control. So the results of burning from the CDO process are directly thrown into the air, water and soil," he explained.

In this case, Rizal added, the Government through his Ministry will continue to carry out supervision and strict action against industries that are abay to maintain the environment due to the impact of their activities.

"Likewise, industries that pollute, damage the environment, of course we will take action," he said.
