JAKARTA - The Chief of Staff of the Army (Kasad) General TNI Maruli Simanjuntak, M.Sc., emphasized that togetherness and the spirit of mutual cooperation are the key to overcoming various problems faced by the community.
He conveyed this when inaugurating the pipanization of clean water and reforestation activities in the OSF San Damiano Monastery area, Pandan, Central Tapanuli Regency, North Sumatra, Monday (8/6/2026).
The activity is part of the TNI AD Manunggal Air Program which aims to help the community obtain access to clean water while maintaining environmental sustainability through greening efforts around the source of the spring.
"It takes the commonality between the people and the TNI to overcome various existing problems. With the spirit of mutual cooperation and concern, various difficulties faced by the community can be overcome better," explained General Maruli, launching the Army Public Relations Service, Monday (8/6).
The construction of the 1,700-meter pipeline network utilizes water sources from the Bukit Laverna Pandan Spring, and is now being used by around 500 families living around the OSF San Damiano Monastery area.
The presence of this facility is a solution to the community's need for clean water, which has been limited access, especially during the dry season.
Furthermore, the 1992 Military Academy Abituren emphasized that the provision of clean water is a basic need that has a direct impact on the quality of life of the community. Therefore, the TNI AD continues to strive to present programs whose benefits can be felt in a tangible and sustainable manner by the community.
"The most important thing about this program is that people can get clean water more easily. The presence of this facility is expected to be able to support the needs of households, social activities, and daily religious activities of the community," added the 43rd Commander of the Strategic Reserve Command of the Army (Kostrad).
During the working visit, accompanied by the General Chair of the Persit Kartika Chandra Kirana Ny. Uli Simanjuntak, the Kasad also reviewed the construction of a modular bridge (Bailey) in Lubuk Ampolu Village, Badiri District.
The review was carried out to ensure the progress of the bridge construction, which is expected to increase regional connectivity, facilitate community mobility, and support the economic activities of residents.
Kasad emphasized that the success of a program is not only measured from the development process, but also from the sustainability of the benefits felt by the community.
Therefore, the management and maintenance of the facilities that have been built need to be carried out together by all parties concerned.
"We hope that this facility can be maintained and used well. The TNI AD is present to help build, but the sustainability of the program is determined by the community's concern and participation in caring for it," said Kasad.
Finally, Kasad also invited all elements of the community to continue to cultivate the spirit of mutual cooperation in maintaining water resources and the surrounding environment.
According to him, infrastructure development must go hand in hand with efforts to preserve the environment so that the benefits can continue to be felt by future generations.
