JAKARTA - The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of Iran has stated that it has attacked a number of enemy bases in Kuwait and Bahrain after US drones attacked a number of locations in Iran.

The IRGC Air Force targeted Ali al-Salem Air Base in Kuwait as well as key facilities of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain with ballistic missiles, according to the semi-official news agency.

The attack was carried out in response to the American drone attack on a telecommunications tower on Qeshm Island and a tower in Sirik, the IRGC said.

The IRGC warned that further aggression would trigger a response that goes beyond limited attacks, including a total closure of the Strait of Hormuz to oil and gas shipments.

The threat has rattled global energy markets and raised concerns of prolonged economic damage.

The tensions in the region increased after the United States and Israel launched air raids against Iran in late February, triggering a series of retaliatory actions and expanding instability in the region.

In response, Iran then launched an attack on Israel by targeting countries that are US military bases, as well as disrupting shipping through the Strait of Hormuz as an important route for global energy supplies.

The ceasefire then began to be implemented, although diplomatic efforts to reach a broader agreement continued.
