Moderate to Heavy Rain Predicted to Flood Jakarta in the Next Few Days, BPBD Dispatches Personnel and Rubber Boats

JAKARTA - Moderate to heavy rain potential is expected to still hit all areas of Jakarta in the next few days. The DKI Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) has also alerted personnel and evacuation equipment to anticipate flooding and puddles.

Based on the weather forecast infographic released by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government, moderate to heavy rain is predicted to occur in Central Jakarta, North Jakarta, West Jakarta, South Jakarta, East Jakarta, and the Thousand Islands.

Entering Wednesday, May 27, 2026, the intensity of the rain is expected to start to decrease. All of Jakarta is predicted to experience light rain throughout the day.

The weather then gradually improved on Thursday, May 28, 2026. West Jakarta, South Jakarta, and East Jakarta are predicted to be sunny. Meanwhile, Central Jakarta, North Jakarta, and the Thousand Islands are still potentially showered with light rain. As for Friday, May 29, 2026, all areas of Jakarta are predicted to be sunny.

Head of the DKI Jakarta BPBD, Marulitua Sijabat, said his party continued to monitor the weather and atmospheric conditions released by the BMKG as the basis for determining the readiness steps.

"BPBD continues to monitor weather forecast information, early warnings, and the development of atmospheric conditions issued by BMKG. This information is the basis for the preparation of preparedness measures and the dissemination of early warnings to the public," Maruli told reporters, Tuesday, May 26.

BPBD also alerted personnel in a number of flood-prone and flooded areas. A number of supporting equipment are ensured to be ready for use if emergency conditions occur at any time.

"BPBD personnel, disaster management officers, and related elements are alerted in flood-prone and stagnant areas. Supporting equipment such as rubber boats, portable pumps, operational vehicles, and evacuation equipment are ensured to be in a ready-to-use condition," he said.

In addition, BPBD monitors the water level in rivers, reservoirs, and floodgates that have the potential to trigger flooding when rainfall increases.

"X. Officers in the field conduct patrols and reports periodically to ensure that responses can be carried out faster," said Marulitua.

Weather information and potential flooding are also disseminated through social media, applications, and disaster communication networks so that the public can receive early warnings more quickly.

BPBD also ensures that the temporary evacuation location and basic logistical support have been prepared if the evacuation of residents is necessary.

In handling floods and puddles, BPBD acts as a cross-sector coordinator. The Water Resources Office is responsible for operating pumps and controlling the flow of water, while the Gulkarmat Office assists in the evacuation process of affected residents.

On the other hand, the Transportation Office is prepared to carry out traffic engineering at the location affected by the flood. The Health Office prepares health services and anticipates post-flood diseases, while the Social Office is responsible for the basic needs of refugees.
