Russia-China Condemns Seizure and Freezing of Foreign State Assets

JAKARTA - Russia and China condemned initiatives involving the blocking, freezing, or seizure of assets and property belonging to foreign states in a joint statement.

"The parties condemn initiatives related to the blocking, freezing, or seizure of foreign state assets and properties and reaffirm their right to take countermeasures in accordance with international legal norms," the statement on further strengthening the comprehensive partnership and strategic cooperation between Russia and China read.

In the statement, the two countries also called for the elimination of unilateral coercive measures that are considered to be in violation of international law and the purposes of the UN Charter.

Russia and China stressed the importance of respecting the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, including respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries.

Both countries also oppose actions that harm the fundamental interests of other countries, especially in the field of security.

The document also emphasizes the commitment of Russia and China to resolve differences peacefully through dialogue and consultations based on the principles of equality and indivisible security.

In addition, the two countries also expressed a firm rejection of the use of unilateral sanctions, secondary restrictions, and other trade-hampering practices.

Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in China on May 19 for an official visit. On Wednesday, Putin held talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.
