JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto expressed his gratitude to the PDI Perjuangan for choosing to be outside the government. He said the position was important for democratic oversight.

Prabowo made the statement at the end of his speech at the DPR plenary session, Wednesday (20/5).

"I understand and I understand that PDIP sacrificed to be outside the government. I want to say thank you to PDIP," said Prabowo.

Prabowo said that he actually wanted all parties to work together in the government. However, he admitted that democracy still needed supervision.

"Every leader must be willing to be criticized, every executive must be supervised," he said.

He admitted that criticism from PDIP sometimes felt harsh. However, Prabowo said that criticism could be a warning that saved the government.

"Sometimes I'm sad at night before going to bed. This PDIP member sometimes criticizes very hard," said Prabowo.

In the same speech, Prabowo also touched on the role of national private companies. He named Indofood and Mayora as examples of Indonesian companies that are able to compete abroad.

"Mayora has managed to market Kopiko in more than 100 countries," he said.

According to Prabowo, the government must create a good business climate, not make it difficult for entrepreneurs.
